Shioi Construction and its drywall division Creative Partition Systems were contracted to build a new steel-structure luau pavilion located at the Sheraton Kauai Coconut Beach Resort. The 6,785-square-foot pavilion comprises of steel framing wrapped with wood and faux bamboo to emulate an authentic Hawaiian hale.

Due to the COVID-19 pandemic, the project encountered extreme delays in shipping of materials that were manufactured on the East Coast including large orders of the handcrafted faux bamboo and thatch roofing materials. The project was originally scheduled to be completed in four months, but changes in materials and delays in shipments extended the completion time to six and a half months. The project was completed in January 2022 with a contract amount of $2,202,000.

The subcontractors on this project included Action Electric, Inc., Diamond Plumbing Co., JD Painting & Decorating, Inc., Koapaka Construction Co., Inc., Koga Engineering & Construction, Inc., Kokua Roofing Services, Mahelona Sheet Metal Fabrication, LLC, Simmons Steel Corporation, and Unrivaled Concrete, LLC.

Work Scope: The scope of work includes demolition, excavation, concrete (stamp & stain with natural leaf imprint), structural steel, pre-engineered wood trusses, electrical, plumbing, fire sprinklers, shingle thatch roofing, rough carpentry, finish carpentry (windows, doors, finish hardware, stainless steel countertops), faux bamboo panels and wall coverings, ceramic wall base, FRP wall panels, painting, and landscaping.
