Wilcox Medical Center CT Scanner - Lihue, Kauai
Shioi Construction Inc. was contracted by Wilcox Medical Center to renovate a CT scan room to install a new CT scanner. As reported by Hawaii Pacific Health, “Wilcox performs an average of 11,000 imaging scans a year. The new CT scanner will help physicians, nurses and staff expand services and treat patients more efficiently at the only Level III Trauma Center on Kauai.”
The work scope consisted of interior demolition, saw cutting and removal of a section of concrete slab to pour the new CT equipment foundation, structural steel to support new rooftop HVAC equipment and exam light supports, gypsum board cove light soffit with radiused features, new cabinets, solid surface tops, wall protection, accented sheet flooring, plumbing fixtures, medical gas piping and outlets, and electrical work for the CT room and specialty requirements for the new CT equipment. Lighting controls and video projections were also installed.
The project was located adjacent to other fully operating imaging spaces (another CT, Xray, and MRI) with access through a section of the emergency room and ancillary corridors. Shioi mitigated noise and dust to ensure that the patients’ and staff’s experiences were as normal as possible. A highlight of the project was the coordination of subcontractors, such as electrical, working in sequence to meet the equipment vendor's requirements and special features. Shioi successfully navigated an intense schedule and the project was completed in July 2023.
