Lanai High & Elementary School Expansion
Centrally located at the heart of Lanai City, Lanai High & Elementary School is the lone learning center on the Island. The campus expansion is the first design-build project undertaken by the Hawaii’s Department of Education. The project, on a parcel of 2.42 acres, consists of four (4) new classroom buildings, complete with a new infrastructure, access road and asphalt parking lot. The campus features an open courtyard with amphitheater seating, wide concrete walkways and promenades fully landscaped with an entry garden and numerous rain gardens. Each of the buildings are single story, constructed using a combination of concrete slab on grade, CMU walls, wood framed floors and roof trusses. Notable amenities included high vaulted ceilings, clerestories with exposed roof trusses for natural ventilation, and sola-tube systems for natural lighting. The campus is centered around a science laboratory building complete with fume hoods, lab casework and fixtures. The other buildings include open classrooms, administrative offices, locker and restroom facilities. The new campus expansion is a LEED Registered project.
