Shioi Construction was awarded the Kaahumanu Homes Modernization project to upgrade the existing affordable housing units and make numerous units ADA accessible. The last of the renovated units were turned over to tenants at the end of May 2017. ADA upgrades involved interior unit renovation and exterior work. Sidewalks and landings at each building were made accessible by adding handrails. Other features, such as handicap accessible clotheslines, were installed. New exterior fencing and operable gates were included in the project to secure the facility. The contract amount was $5 million.
