Ventura Development envisioned a central business district with a suitable location which would benefit the community of Kauai. Conveniently located in Lihue, Kauai, the Hanakukui office building came to fruition with the efforts of an elite Team. This 2-story 36,000 square-feet facility, built by Shioi Construction, was not just an ordinary building. During the planning and design of the project, the island of Kauai was picking up the pieces from the devastation of Hurricane Iniki. The development team sought to build a structure that could withstand the destruction that Iniki brought to the Island. Features of this building included pre-engineered steel frame construction, an exterior lath and plaster system for the walls and soffits, custom glazing, double-pitched monier tile roofing and distinct decorative panels. The building was constructed to withstand 100 mph winds and included a backup electrical generator system. The interior amenities included ornamental millwork, brass stair railings and many other ornate interior finishes.
