The old timers of Kauai refer to it as the "Burn's House", for the home built in 1937 by the famous Hawaii architect Charles William Dickey for Lihue Plantation Company's former manager Caleb Burns. The beautiful home tucked away in the rolling hills below the base of Mount Waialeale, is today known as "Iliahi", named for the sandalwood forests that once populated the area.  Although Iliahi's physical condition had seen better days over its 75 years of life, Shioi Construction was privileged to resurrect this historic and iconic historic home for the Grove Farm Company.

The three bedroom, two story home was built of rock moss as its exterior building walls. The challenging restoration work included an extensive facelift of structural, roofing, electrical, plumbing and carpentry work.  Outdated "tube and knob" electrical wiring was replaced and updated as were the old plumbing fixtures, while keeping its nostalgic look. The ornate wood finishes and ohia floors were meticulously restored to look as if Mr. Burns himself was living there today.

Today, the proud and beautiful Ihiahi has returned to life, as it hosts many private events for all to enjoy its grandeur. Shioi Construction is very humbled and grateful to have been a part of this project and for the opportunity in resurrecting a part of Kauai's history.
