In September, Shioi Construction, Inc. started renovation work on the Wilcox Medical Center emergency room in Lihue, Kauai.

The Garden Island newspaper reported that "The goal of the Emergency Department construction is to expand and upgrade the facilities to continue to provide quality trauma and emergency care for the Kaua‘i community.This includes the creation of two trauma resuscitation suites and renovation of specialty spaces for behavioral health, infectious control, pediatric rooms and OB-GYN care. There are additional plans to convert semi-private observation bays to private treatment examination rooms."
