This summer, Shioi Construction and Creative Partition Systems were pleased to participate in the Career Connections Summer Internship Program. They welcomed Kahuku High School student Nahj Naeole and 2021 Kapaa High School graduate Jonathan Workman to their team at Nihi Kai condos.  The young men were able to gain valuable on-the-job experience, and we enjoyed having them on our crews.

Career Connections is a program for high school students using curriculum developed by the United Brotherhood of Carpenters' International Training Center.  It is a partnership of the Hawaii Carpenters Apprenticeship and Training Fund and Department of Education, with support from the Chamber of Commerce of Hawaii, Department of Labor and Industrial Relations, Castle Foundation, and Pacific Resource Partnership.  This initiative is part of a larger strategy by the DOE to involve business and education groups in preparing students for high-skill, in-demand jobs.

The Garden Island recently featured an article about the program at Kapaa High School. Read the full article here.
